What Are The Best Paleo Foods?
The paleo diet or way of life as I like to call it is based on a rough dietary plan modeled after basically what the cavemen people ate.
It’s called a diet but really it’s just a natural healthy way of life. I think the term diet is somewhat propaganda as right away folks think it may be difficult or expensive.
Honestly, the paleo diet or the paleo lifestyle is simple to follow. Do you really think that our caveman ancestors complicated how they had their food?
Of course note, they kept it simple and easy, they simply did not mess around with processed food, not that there was any and I guess that is the point.
What Did Human Beings Do Before Convenience Stores
Humans picked and provided their own food and it is more tasty than processed food, yes in today’s fast flowing world you may not have the time to go and pick or hunt your own meals. No problems, you can get fresh organic paleo food locally, just avoid the processed foods.
Seriously, thousands of people from all over the world and all aspects of life have reported many, many health benefits and positive healthy results from turning to the paleo way.
While the paleo lifestyle may not be the miracle cure to all illnesses, it has numerous benefits that can help your immune system as you are feeding it the healthy goodness it craves, your not jamming your body full of preservatives and unnatural stodge.
The lifestyle is very basic and anybody can follow along and cook up tasty natural recipes, you may want to call it a diet but to me, it’s every day living and eating and I will never go back to eating processed foods.
I mean, take a look a look at this, does this look tasty to you? It’s delicious and it’s paleo all the way.
This article is not the driver to go on a crusade against the processed food and fast food outlets but honestly If it wasn’t for the millions of dollars they provide they probably would not be allowed to even exist.
Seriously, the amount of rubbish that can go into a lot of our super market foods in unreal. Anyway I digress.
To succeed on your new paleo way you will need to get into a routine, I don’t want to say that you need to be determined, as you will think it difficult when it is not, the difficult part is not to forget and accidentally buy processed food, and to be fair it’s not your fault.
The news and media have you believe that fast food chains and processed foods are fine so your brain is conditioned to not know any different. This is the only initial hump you will go through, it’s just about not forgetting what you should not eat.
It may take a week or so for your body to adjust with your new food intake, don’t worry, this is a good thing as your body will start getting used to all the goodness your are feeding it.
Initially, you will have cravings that will be gnawing at you constantly, this will be your body asking for the processed sugar as it will be craving to top itself up with unnatural sugar, for the most part, once you get past the first two weeks it will be smooth sailing all the way and you simply will not go back to processed food.
So what are the best paleo foods?
It is highly recommended that you eat organic produce and grass fed meats.
Even your eggs should be free range, it’s very easy to do, it’s just a case of getting into a routine and doing the correct checks.
It’s not difficult to pick out the organic foods, just be sure to check the food packaging, unfortunately the big processed food companies are very clever, they tend to package their foods to try and make them look more natural than they are.
Again, it’s just a shame the food industry is not more strict with food packaging, but hey, that’s another story as we will start and talk about politics and money!. I guess what I am saying is, just check your food packaging until you start to pick out the good from the bad.
There are many types of foods you can eat while on the paleo diet. It would be best to get a book on the paleo diet or paleo diet recipes to look at the options available to you. This article will give you a few suggestions, but it is by no means comprehensive but as an example, you can have:-
Meats – Poultry, Bacon, Pork, Ground Beef, Grass Fed Beef, Chicken Thigh, Chicken Leg, Chicken Wings, Turkey, Chicken Breast, Pork Tenderloin, Pork Chops, Steak, Veal, Lamb rack, Shrimp, Lobster, Clams, Salmon, Venison Steaks, Buffalo, New York Steak, Lamb Chops, Rabbit, Goat, Elk, Emu, Goose, Kangaroo, Bear, Beef Jerky, Eggs, Bison, Bison Steaks, Bison Jerky, Bison Ribeye, Bison Sirloin, Wild Boar, Reindeer, Turtle, Ostrich, Pheasant, Quail, Lean Veal, Chuck Steak, Rattlesnake.
Now, of course you may balk at some of these foods and some might be next to impossible to obtain, but this is just a brief list. Pick and choose what you like and eat those. It does not have to be a rigid diet. Some flexibility is good. You can also have many vegetables such as –
Asparagus, Avocado, Artichoke hearts, Brussels sprouts, Carrots, Spinach, Celery, Broccoli, Zucchini, Cabbage, Peppers (All Kinds), Cauliflower, Parsley, Eggplant, Green Onions.
You can also have healthy fats such as, Coconut oil, Olive oil, Macadamia Oil, Avocado Oil, Grass fed Butter
Nuts – Almonds, Cashews, Hazelnuts, Pecans, Pine Nuts, Pumpkin Seeds, Sunflower Seeds, Macadamia Nut, Walnuts.
Fruit – Apple, Avocado, Blackberries, Papaya, Peaches, Plums, Mango, Lychee, Blueberries, Grapes, , Lemon, Strawberries, Watermelon, Pineapple, Guava, Lime, Raspberries, Cantaloupe, Tangerine, Figs, Oranges.
